Edward Germanov Shihan

Edward Germanov Shihan 6th Dan, Aikikai, was born and lives near Sofia, Bulgaria. He has practiced the Martial Arts since 1980 and Aikido from 1987. In 1990, Germanov Shihan began training under the late Fumio Toyoda Shihan and followed him around the world for the remainder of Toyoda Shihan’s life. Germanov Shihan founded the Bulgarian Aikido Association in 1990 and continues to be the president and head instructor of this organization. The Bulgarian Aikido Association is an official member organization of Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Japan.

In 2009 Germanov Shihan started Tendokan Aikido International and is the President of this organization. This organization is the international arm of the Bulgarian Aikido Association, following the teaching methods, Kyu, and Dan grading systems created by Fumio Toyoda Shihan. The purpose of Tendokan Aikido International is to further the art of Aikido worldwide as taught by the late Fumio Toyoda Shihan.

As of 2007, Zenshinkan Dojo became a member of the Bulgarian Aikido Association and its international branch, Tendokan Aikido International. Caron Sensei began formally training with Germanov Shihan at that time and received his 4th Dan rank from Germanov Shihan in Bulgaria in 2009. Germanov Shihan continues to visit Zenshinkan Dojo to conduct seminars and extended instructor training programs.

Germanov Shihan also trained in Shodo (Zen Calligraphy) under Toyoda Shihan and Hiroshi Tajiri Shihan and Zen under Tenzan Gensho Rokoji (Toyoda Shihan) and Hosokawa Roshi and he was ordained as a Zen priest in 2014 by Rev. Greg Zenshin Tensho Noble.
