Zen Training Class

In this Zen training class, we focus on various aspects of Rinzai Zen training including meditation (zazen), physical exercises to improve posture, and abdominal breathing exercises to activate the hara (the center of our energetic strength located in the lower abdomen)

Every Friday from 7:30pm-9pm

Everyone is welcome.
No prior experience necessary.

Training is offered to everyone free of charge. Participants may leave a donation after training to support the maintenance of our dojo.
Zenshinkan Dojo is 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization.
All donations are tax deductible.

Zazen is the basic practice of Zen as it provides the easiest conditions in which to experience a heightened state of awareness. Zazen cultivates sensitivity to subtle bodily sensations and connections, as well as to the flow of energy. To sit zazen well, one must harmonize the mind, body, and breathing. Only when the three are realized as one will it be possible to succeed in stabilizing and tranquilizing the body and mind at the same time. These three things are inseparable from each other.

Information for New Students:

There is not much required of new students besides a sincere desire to train.
However, the following is some useful information for first-time students:

When to arrive:

We ask new students to arrive at least 10 minutes earlier for a brief orientation on how to sit for meditation. We sit cross-legged on cushions. If you need to sit on a bench or chair, let us know and we'll accommodate. Everyone, regardless of physical condition, is welcome to train.

What to wear:

As a dōjō, we wear, for practical reasons, traditional Japanese martial arts training clothes: gi, hakama, and obi. Beginners, however, are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes preferably with loose-fitting pants. We remove our shoes upon entering the dōjō. When ready, you can purchase a uniform set at the dojo.

“To study the way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things. To be enlightened by all things is to remove the barriers between one's self and others.”

    About Us

Zenshinkan Dojo, a traditional Japanese Aikido school located in the heart of Worcester, has been teaching and promoting Aikido training for over 25 years. Although our lineage traces directly back to the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, Zenshinkan’s instructors adapt their classes to address the challenges of our modern society.

Zenshinkan Dojo is a place where Aikido and Zen training are offered concurrently to create a program of shugyo: intense spiritual, physical and mental training.
